Feedback on Day 1: Miné de Klerk & Dr JP Bosman (Stellenbosch University)

Miné referred to the notion of wicked problems that were discussed in the previous afternoon’s soapbox sessions. She once again highlighted the topics that have been covered the previous afternoon (Soapbox sessions). Aligned with the soapbox sessions, the notion of the techno-human condition (Allenby & Sarewitz, 2011) was highlighted and is an interesting concept to further explore.

JP followed with feedback from the audience where participants had to indicate one or two things that they are interested in as displayed in the word cloud:

Note the emphasis placed on collaboration, the importance of context, innovation, action and sharing.

Keynote and Workshop:  Prof. Laura Czerniewicz (University of Cape Town, South Africa)

Laura started her session by articulating some of the dangers and issues currently evident in the field of educational technology. The higher education context was further underlined by the current forces at play in shaping HE. Laura paid particular attention to three main aspects, namely marketisation, datafication and surveillance capitalism. You can listen to her presentation here:  Video clip [35:14]
